DGA type modular overvoltage arresters protect electrical systems against overvoltage
which may occur in the power supply circuit during a storm (lightning) or during coupling
to the network (industrial interference). Depending on the distribution set-up, it is necessary to provide for one element per phase to be protected and, if necessary, an additional element for neutral.
Protection is provided by a zinc oxide varistor which is able to channel currents
of up to 70 kA to earth without incurring damage. Stepped protection of the installation can be achieved using a DGA type arrester combined with a lower intensity type arrester (DGT) positioned downcircuit.
The DGA overvoltage arrester benefits from a new design of removable cartridge allowing the varistor to be replaced without affecting wiring.
